AFRICAGAP

AfricaGap is a unique programme based in Kenya and Zimbabwe for students aged 17 - 23. Hosted and run by professionals in safaris and conservation, AfricaGap is the perfect way to see the best of Kenya and Zimbabwe, travelling in a group and led by kind and fun group leaders.

The programmes are 11 weeks and 7 weeks long. These are unique and life changing experiences. Live in the bush amongst wildlife and learn about conservation. Volunteering in primary schools near Mount Kenya. Incredible expeditions to the Rift Valley Lakes, seeing traditional tribes along the way.

Climb Mt Kenya, explore forests, deserts and lakes. Camp under the stars. Visit Victoria Falls and raft the Zambezi. Application is by Zoom interview, and school character references are required. As parents of four adventurous, outdoor children, we are keen explorers with a passion for wildlife and conserving the environment.

Our wish is to deliver the broadest experience for gap students in Africa. It is our aim to offer opportunities for young people to learn to thrive in an environment which is different, diverse, unknown, and challenging. Living in a team of up to 14 other students, our wish is that each person will experience and gain a passion for the African environment, its people and wildlife, gaining confidence and inspiration from their experience.

“Without a doubt the best thing I have ever done! A life-changing few months where I made life-long friends. We travelled to places I would never have been able to get to alone, or be able to communicate. Volunteering in schools was amazing, we made friends with great people of all ages and learned so much from them about life in a Kenyan village. The whole experience far exceeded my expectations and was so much fun. I cannot recommend AfricaGap enough to anyone who wants to spend time in Africa on their gap year.”
